SEND Provision Plan Young People’s survey – tell us what you think

Introduction:

Hertfordshire has a plan for how we will help children and young people with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND).

You can find more information about the proposed changes, and download the full plan here: SEND Provision Plan 2026-29

This plan has details of what the suggested changes might be. In the plan we have 5 actions.  An action is something that gets done and might lead to a change.

We want to know what you think of these 5 actions.

Your voice matters! Please answer these questions to help us get it right.

1. How old are you?

2. Action 1: More support for children with SEND in mainstream schools so that they can succeed in their local school

What do you think?

3. Action 2: Create new SEND Units in mainstream schools so that children with SEND get the help they need in a local school.

SEND units are smaller learning environments that are located on the site of a mainstream primary or secondary school.  They offer a smaller, structured and supportive environment with specialist staff, while enabling pupils to maintain access to wider mainstream learning and social opportunities.

What do you think?

4. Action 3: Create more special school places to support children and young people with the highest level of need.

What do you think?

5. Action 4: Special schools will change so they can help more children with different needs.

What do you think?

6. Action 5: When adults choose which type of school a child or young person goes to, they will think about what they're good at and what they might need help with

What do you think? Do you agree that this should be an action?

7. What is the one most important thing that Hertfordshire should do that would help children and young people with SEND and their families the most?

8. Do you have anything else you’d like to tell us about the plan?

Thank you for taking part in this survey.  We will use your answers to make sure that the final plan reflects the opinions and concerns of young people in Hertfordshire.
