Services for Young People

Consultation about future service priorities

Hertfordshire County Council Services for Young People (HCC SfYP) is looking at ways to develop the services that we provide to young people. This comes in response to the evolving priorities within Hertfordshire County Council Children's Services, including the need to support the school inclusion agenda.

HCC SfYP is required to make savings from 2024, while upholding the local authority’s statutory responsibility and leadership role to provide, so far as reasonably practicable:
  • Sufficient educational leisure-time activities for young people which are for the improvement of their wellbeing and sufficient facilities for such activities
  • Opportunities for young people to have a say in the services provided for them
  • Suitable education and training provision for all young people aged 16-19 and for those aged 20-25 with an education, health and care plan (EHCP)
  • Opportunities that encourage, enable and assist young people to participate in education or training, tracking young people’s participation
  • Tracking to determine the identities of young people aged 16 and 17 failing to participate in education and training, so that support can be sourced.

HCC SfYP already targets its services for vulnerable young people and those living in specific locations. This includes young people in care, care leavers, SEND young people, LGBT+ young people, young people supervised by the Youth Justice Service, young people with education, health and care plans, young people with a social worker.
