Due to the recent flood event in August 2026, we would like to re-open the application and give communities another opportunity to apply for a flood kit if funding becomes available.

The Flood Risk Management Team at Hertfordshire County Council has successfully completed a pilot scheme providing flood kits to local communities. Thanks to the positive impact of the pilot, we’re now inviting more communities to express interest in joining the next phase of the scheme—subject to future funding availability.

This initiative is designed to help communities become more resilient to flooding by supporting them in developing a tailored Flood Action Plan. Participating communities will also receive a flood kit, which may include practical items such as Hydrosnake barriers, puddle pumps, and HydroSacks—essential items to help carry out their flood action plan effectively. The products that make up the flood kit will be up to the community to decided on but officers will support them to make the decision.

In order to access the funding, the storage unit (used to store the flood kit items) will need to be located on land with public liability insurance.

If your community is interested in taking proactive steps to manage flood risk, we’d love to hear from you.

Any questions regarding the application, please email FRMSchemes@hertfordshire.gov.uk
